The Top Five Sylvester Stallone Movies

5) Demolition Man

4) Rocky Balboa

3) Cop Land

2) First Blood

1) Rocky

We don't often get complaints about our Top Five lists. Sometimes we'll hear that we overrate or underrate a movie on the list - or forget one altogether - but there was tempered outrage at the very notion that Sylvester Stallone had ever made five good movies. Granted, he hasn't made five classics, but in their own way, I count ten to twelve pretty decent flicks in his career, and these make the cut as our top five.

Demolition Man is the best of the middle aged Stallone action flicks. Despite its cheesiness, it's got some pretty neat ideas for the future and, of course, Wesley Snipes with platinum hair. Rocky Balboa was one of the better films of 2006, and I'd have it higher but, you know, look at number one.

First Blood holds up fairly well, considering. Had it had a bigger budget, I think it could've been more special, but it's still a very memorable film and obviously gives Stallone his second best character. It should be pointed out, incidentally, that while both Rocky and Rambo are quiet assassins, they go about their business in much different ways emotionally. He actually should get some credit for making them so different despite the fact that they don't talk much.
