The Top Five Romantic Comedies
4) It Happened One Night
3) Annie Hall
2) Some Like It Hot
1) Amelie
Don't take this the wrong way - especially if I single out your pick here - but we got some bad suggestions for this list. I mean, someone honestly had How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days in their Top Five.
So instead of including one of the big mainstream rom-coms that Hollywood shoves down our throat every six weeks, I decided this list should actually reflect the best romantic comedies ever, meaning the best movies ever made that would fall apart without their sense of humor first and their sweet romantic side second.
I think we did a good job salvaging the list. If you don't like Amelie, for example, you're a bigger bastard than I am, and you should probably be in prison somewhere because there's very little doubt you've wronged someone criminally. It's at number one because it does both things so well. It's not as funny as Annie Hall, but it's light years more romantic. It's one of the great romances ever made, a few notches below Casablanca and Gone with the Wind. But I stand behind the pick.
Maybe you've never seen Some Like It Hot or It Happened One Night, and that's a you problem not a me problem.
The history of Annie Hall is well documented and so many people have learned to love The Princess Bride over the last 20 years that I don't think I need to elaborate on that pick, either.
