The Top Five Bank Robberies

5) The Great Train Robbery

4) Out of Sight

3) Dog Day Afternoon

2) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

1) Bonnie & Clyde

Our range of answers covered all of the above, obviously, as well as movies like Heat, The Lavender Hill Mob, The Ladykillers, Inside Man, O Brother Where Art Thou (which contains a bank robbery but really isn't a bank robbery movie), and probably a dozen more.

Our reasons are simple: The Great Train Robbery (as outlined in our review of The Bank Job) was the first actual movie. So, everything stems from there. Out of Sight will be one of the better remembered Clooney movies as well as one of the great movies to watch on cable. It's just a terrific crime comedy with plenty of sexual tension and fantastic dialogue.

You could switch around the top three if you wanted, but I think all three have to be included. I went with the film that had the most impact on the art form first and worked my way down from there. Bonnie & Clyde is an extremely relevant film in terms of the dawn of the new American cinema that ruled the 1970s and that, in turn, gave birth to the independent movement of the 1980s and 90s.
