The Top Five Juniors

5) Sammy Davis, Jr.

4) Lon Chaney, Jr.

3) Jason Robards, Jr.

2) Robert Downey, Jr.

1) Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

There are, as it turns out, a lot more Juniors than you'd think. Now, granted, the vast majority of those who could bump some guys off this list don't use Junior in their professional name, so we didn't count them. I think that's fair.

Who fits into that category: Denzel Washington, Robert De Niro, George Lucas, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Will Smith, Marlon Brando, Bill Cosby, Robert Redford, Viggo Mortensen, William H. Macy, Rock Hudson, Fred Astaire, and yes, even Mario Lopez.

And we had a mixed bag of other nominees, everyone from Cuba Gooding to Freddie Prinze, and from Desi Arnaz to Antonio Sabato. For reasons that should be obvious, they didn't make our list.

I suppose the only name that might surprise you on our Top Five is three-time Oscar nominee Jason Robards, and yes, it's the same Jason Robards you're thinking of. The venerable actor was the son of a man better known as a stage actor. Robards, Sr., despite some 225 credits (!), never found fame in front of a camera.

All the others, with the exception of Lon Chaney, Jr., were or are more famous than their fathers and probably accomplished more in their careers. Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. was one of the first action heroes, but his son had a longer and very fruitful career. Who's Sammy Davis, Sr. exactly? And Robert Downey, Jr. is one of the finest actors of his generation...and now he has an action figure.
