The Top Five Onscreen Siblings
Friday, July 25, 2008 at 12:02AM 5 - The Hanson Brothers (Slap Shot)
4 - Richie, Margot, and Chas (The Royal Tenenbaums)
3 - Michael, Sonny, and Fredo Corleone (The Godfather)
2 - Jake and Elwood (The Blues Brothers)
1 - Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa (Star Wars)
I'm surprised how many entries we received that didn't have those star-cross sibs, Luke and Leia. The Skywalker family tree is one thing George Lucas hid pretty well in the first trilogy, but of course, within the construction of the story, it makes perfect sense.
Other siblings worth mentioning: Commodus and Lucilla from Gladiator, Sebastian and Kathryn from Cruel Intentions, Olive and Dwayne from Little Miss Sunshine, Raymond and Charlie from Rain Man, the inbred brothers and sisters in The Hills Have Eyes (nice pick, by the way), the Pevensies from The Chronicles of Narnia, the March sisters from Little Women, Vincent and Julius from Twins, Wednesday and Pugsley Addams, The Sons of Katie Elder, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Chet and Wyatt Donnelly from Weird Science.
The Hanson triplets are the only real brothers on the list, and they still get a lot of mileage out of their Slap Shot characters, making appearances to this day wearing the jerseys and everything.
The Tenenbaums would probably be higher on the list if they had a little more to do in the film, and to a lesser extent, that's why the Corleones are at number three, as well. The stories are pretty sprawling and incorporate so many characters that it's hard to just focus on the siblings. But you can't put Chas, Richie and Margot over Fredo, Sonny, and Michael, right?
Jack and Elwood belong pretty high on this list, in my opinion. True story: Of all the cinematic siblings that received votes, they're the only ones who have imitators playing nightly shows at casinos around the country. That has to count for something, right?
But to me, it has to be Luke and Leia in the top spot. I mean, they saved the frickin' galaxy! And, after it was revealed they were brother and sister, there was a lot less guilt about wanting to have sex with each other than you would've thought. Very professional.
