Bill Murray Wants a Female Ghostbuster

After years of what seemed like very inconvenient silence on the subject, Bill Murray is finally talking about Ghostbusters 3. Credit the Ghostbusters video game for a lot of that thaw. Murray provided his voice - and even that took some convincing - although the game, originally scheduled to be released at the end of the month, has been postponed.

But Murray had a great time working on the game, apparently, and recently joked that the wounds from Ghostbusters 2 were healed. Not that the threequel needed his blessing; Columbia had already begun working on a screenplay by hiring Gene Stupnisky and Lee Eisenberg from The Office.

"I don't even know who these guys are, but I know there's two guys from The Office writing a Ghostbusters script," Murray told MTV. "But it's great; I think a fresh look at it will be fine. I hope they go back to the original version."

Asked about whether or not he would like to see a setup where the torch was passed to a new generation, the comedian threw a slight curve. "I think it would be funny to have a girl Ghostbuster," said Murray, who is in theaters this weekend with City of Ember.

"They say, 'What if you pass it to Chris Rock?' Well, I dunno, is Chris Rock gonna save us," laughs Murray. "I guess. He's funny."

"I just think there's some funny girls I'd love to see be Ghostbusters. And I think Ghostbusters was so big, there were girls who got involved in it and got dressed up as Ghostbusters for Halloween and so forth."

And that raises an excellent question: Who does he mean? Tina Fey? Sarah Silverman? Amy Poehler?

they have pushed the games release back indefinitely. as stoked as i would be to see a new ghostbusters movie i'm pissed that it's postponing the release of one of my most anticipated releases.

How's about an all girl Ghostbusters squad! Let's just re-boot the whole series...

Either that or make a film version of "The Real Ghosbusters" cartoon, gorilla and all...which I think would be even better given the recent move by Hollywood toward adaptations of old cartoons.

Speaking of old cartoons, when are we going to see Turbo Teen?

seriously, what is the deal all these years resisting a third movie? vanity? fear? honestly, if the artistic excuse is to be used as a sword and shield on keeping the "memory" of ghostbusters sacred it was lost long, long ago when bobby brown made a cameo. it is something surreal that those responsible for the movies would want to keep it where it was left....get over yourselves. well at least those holding the reins to Tron finally did....baby steps....baby steps....

There was no Gorilla in the Real Ghostbusters... That was a Cartoon called Filmation's Ghost Busters that aired in the 1970's. Totally unrelated.

I dont believe they need to add a new ghostbuster male or female to the recipe but if they do and they go female.. Go Zooey Deschanel all the way (from elf)

Chris Rock? No way! I don't find him funny. Chris Tucker? Yes way! He can scream better than Chris Rock I reckon.
