First Look at Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes

We're getting our first look at
Robert
Downey Jr. as
Sherlock Holmes this weekend, and I don't
really know what to think. We had all understood going in that it would be
different from the Holmes portrayals of the past, and are they ever driving that
point home with Holmes in this ensemble.
I wouldn't immediately look at these pictures and think
"Sherlock Holmes," but it's kind of hard to get their context on their own. Is
this Holmes in disguise, or is this what we'll see him wear throughout the
movie?

All the pieces have come together very rapidly on this film. Remember, Downey was announced as Holmes in mid-summer, and Jude Law was tipped as Guy Ritchie's Dr. Watson about a month ago. I would suspect they're racing to get this shot quickly so they can eye a fall 2009 release, although we don't have an official opening day to report just yet.

He's clearly disguised in the style of a barge hand in those pictures.
And if he isn't, wardrobe should be sacked.
Well, they're actually filming it now so I guess we can stop being skeptical.
Until we get a trailer to criticise.
That's just it: With as many changes as they've made, I don't know if that's the real costume or not. You'd hope that it isn't, but I honestly have no clue.
Ah, well it's too good to resist talking about.
Unless, I'm completely off on my Holmes, he did have a particular trick where he used to disguise himself as a labourer and blend so completeley with the so called "lower classes" that he even fooled Dr Watson.
I think these disguises normally included fake beards, so Robert Downey's fresh Hollywood type face may be the only inconsistency in those pictures.
Anyone who cares to google it could probably find out which stories Holmes disguised himself in. I believe it was a feature of the Brett series too, although not so convincing.
I have read the entire works of conan doyles sherlock holmes, and i was excited to learn Ritchie was going to make a film. I was thinking Johnny Depp or David Tennant could portray Holmes in his wild enthusiastic manner. Those photos look terrible, i just pray that it is holmes in disguise. is downey going to be putting on some crude cockney accent as is the style for ritchie? i hope not. looking forward to baron cohens take on him.
PLEASE let that be Holmes in disguise!
