Mark Wahlberg Not Amused by 'Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals'
Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 12:33AM
Does
Mark Wahlberg have a good sense of humor about
himself? The
Max Payne star was recently asked by
MTV
what he thought about
Andy Samberg's inspired Saturday Night Live
skit, Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals. “Uh, I didn’t think it was as funny
as I’d hoped,” Wahlberg admitted.
“I love when people do imitations of me; I try to get
people who work with me to do it all the time,” he added, which is sort of a
surprise. But Wahlberg downplayed the cultural impact of the impression, saying,
“It’s not gonna be one of those things like Sarah Palin, where it’s a big deal.”
Perhaps he's right. I doubt it will be a big deal, but
it was funny because of the concept and because you don't see a lot of Mark
Wahlberg impressions in your day-to-day activities. It is a one-time thing,
though. I mean, Samberg can do Mark Wahlberg Talks to Appliances, but the
joke's over.
The lampooned star has no issue whatsoever with Samberg,
however. “I met him in Canada when he was shooting that movie Hot Rod,
and I liked Hot Rod,” Wahlberg said. “Hot Rod was funnier than
that skit."

And just so you have the context, here's Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals.

Wow. Not sure if it was because I watched this skit earlier this week or not, but I couldn't get it out of my head while trying to watch The Happening tonight.
The worst sketch in an increasingly long list of bad SNL sketches from recent seasons. Samberg is about as funny as a random frat boy in the middle of a kegger. Mark Wahlberg is 100% right, and it has nothing to do with a wounded ego.
Sounds like someone didn't like being made fun of. I enjoy SNL with a casual viewing and watch Entourage every week, yet Mr. Samberg nailed it with Donnie's Brother. I like Mr. Wahlberg for Boogie Nights, Rock Star, Entourage, etc, but how can he be offended at some show lampooning his awful character depth? He was always asking for someone to make fun of him, thankfully a skit actor took his rotten I'm a Tough Guy From Southie act to task and promptly made fun of his inability to vary emotions.
Take a second Mr. Wahlberg before being so opinionated, to look at some of your own films and characters, and don't get so upset when others take their own jabs at your predictable delivery. Practice makes perfect right? Try a new angle sometime. Please.
Wow, Mark Walberg's acting range is about as deep as SNL's writing. I think this skit perfectly illustrates both.
