Jude Law Strikes a Convincing Pose as Dr. Watson

Here's something I didn't expect to say: Jude Law looks like good casting as Watson in the new Sherlock Holmes. I make that proclamation because we now have pictures to prove it.

There was a time, of course, when Jude Law improved any movie as soon as he showed up: The Talented Mr. Ripley, Road to Perdition, and even A.I. all got better the second he arrived in supporting roles. That hasn't been the case in a while - since he decided to go after leads, curiously - but Law does have enough talent to be taken seriously. His barometer has just been way off for about a half-decade.

We checked out the pictures of Robert Downey as Sherlock Holmes the other day, and I wasn't terribly convinced. But these new photos of Law are a lot easier to believe.

So I think he looks the part for Holmes' right hand man, and the moustache is a good touch. Probably not his, though. Guy Ritchie's reinvented Sherlock Holmes is in production this month in London and will likely be released in a year.

The moustache is Jude's, actually.
Personally, I'm very excited for this movie. The cast is great, and if they have good chemistry and the script is decent, this could turn out to be a very fun movie.
Also, I hope Guy Ritchie will keep it simple and not throw too many parlour tricks into his directing style here. I'd rather not be constantly aware of his shticks.

Excellent.

Except that my sister can grow a better moustache than Jude Law's.

Still, he didn't have much time to grow it, as he was only cast last week.

Watson looks, for lack of a better word...

Troubled.

As if, perhaps, he just got dumped by Siena Miller.
