Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 4:09PM Fox Terminating 'Sarah Connor'?
Just barely a season in, Fox might be ready to pull the
plug on
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,
possibly within the next week.
According to
SyFy Portal,
the audience just hasn't come back from the new season of the show, which stars
Lena Headey,
Thomas Dekker,
and Summer
Glau, so much so that Fox executives feel it's also bringing down the
numbers for Prison Break, which follows it on Monday nights and has had a
four-year run on the network.
One source tells SyFy, "Our biggest surprise are the
18-to-49s [a key advertising demographic], those numbers are in the toilet."
The audience is roughly one-third of what it was last
year, and even worse, the most-watched episode generated a 4.1 rating, well
below the lowest rating in the first season (4.5).
"All I can say is that production will likely stop, and
I would think that Fox might try to air some of the episodes already in the
can," the Fox source added. "But I don't know. They don't want to lose 'Prison
Break,' so there could be some schedule shuffling in the future."
Fox has a history of buying incredibly expensive shows,
like Arrested Development and Firefly, and hanging them out to dry
when the numbers don't show up, despite remarkable critical acclaim. Of course,
every network swings the axe pretty freely, but only one network had Arrested
Development and Firefly on in back-to-back seasons.
Will Sarah Connor be next? If there are signs of
trouble, and bad ratings certainly qualify, I'd say the end is near.

Too bad....this is one of the few new shows that actually interests me.
It's damn shame for fox this show is better then prison break
Oof! JUST when it started to be good! This week's episode finally puts the spin on things! Time travel conundrums, and android/half-human/cyborgs FTW! They need to get the word out. If only people saw it, they'd see that (at least this last episode) it's really good!
I think they should reschedule it to a different night to see how it does before terminating it (way overused but relevant :D) because it's kinda hard to get the 18-49 demo with monday night football as competition.
They did this to "Drive" last year as well, for the same reason, it is aired the same time as Heroes. Lets see the shows does not have the ratings we want, could it possible be that our demographic is competing with Football AND HEROES! Stop putting good shows up against heroes and then canceling them. It's going to win.
Maybe if they move the show to wednesday nights at 9, rather than compete with Monday Night Football and Prison Break and Heroes on Mondays it would draw better numbers. I really like this show and watch it every week, but if it does eventually get cancelled, I hope they can at least complete the new season. Fingers crossed ...
This is the only great show on TV at the moment for me. Since Friends, Will and Grace, Ally McBeal and now Scrubs had finnished this is the only great show still on air. And yes I agree with you all the show has too much competition, it should be moved to a different time slot before going cancling straight away. I really hope we get atleast this season finnished and if we're really lucky the 3rd season the producers want.
i hope fox tries a new time slot so this excellent tv show get afair shot it is much better than prisonbreak
