Zack Snyder Has Details on '300' Sequel
Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 9:53AM
There will very likely be another
300
movie. Talk has been building for the past year-and-a-half about where
Frank Miller
and director
Zack Snyder would take the story, and
IESB
has learned that it will evidently be a sequel and not a prequel.
Speaking to Snyder at a
Watchmen event in Los Angeles yesterday, IESB
asked about 300, and Snyder said he would wait for Miller to write the graphic
novel and that he won't personally have any input to the finished product. Once
the graphic novel is complete, Snyder will direct the follow-up, and work on the
screenplay adaptation, as well.
Snyder also says the film will take place during the
year after the Battle of Thermopylae that is featured in 300 and the Battle of
Plataea, which is where the reconstituted forces at the end of the film stand
ready for battle as they listen to Dilios narrates the story of King Leonidas.
Curiously, IESB is still too cautious to say it's a
sequel, and uses the "sequel/prequel" designation. Unless that year in between
the two battles is merely one of several options, then this has all the markings
of a sequel. And frankly, even though I had previously preferred a prequel, I
like the idea of rebuilding the army and reestablishing Spartan pride and honor
and all that.
It sounds like we're still quite a ways away from the
second film, no matter what form it takes. Miller has
The Spirit he's finishing up, and then we're
supposed to finally get around to
Sin City 2. Supposing we take a year for that
and then Miller begins working on 301 or whatever it'll be called (My
guess would be 300: Battle of ...), then we're two years away from
production, give or take. So if I were a gambling man, I'd say March 2011. Could
be late 2010 depending on how fast they work, but that'd be the earliest.
