Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 2:55PM 2008 International Horror and Sci-Fi Festival Coming This Weekend
It's that time of year again - ghouls, goblins, and
whatnot. And this weekend marks the
2008 International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival,
taking place October 23rd - 26th at the
Chandler Cinemas in the Phoenix suburb
of Chandler, Arizona.
The festival is probably more international than ever,
with three of the highlighted feature films all coming from foreign countries:
The opening night gala featuring
Donkey Punch, Pakistan's first zombie movie
Hell's Ground (
featured here at The Big Picture a couple months ago), and the
closing night film,
Sukiyaki Western Django.

There are nearly 40 films or showcases total over the three-day festival run (the opening night party is Thursday night, but the programming begins on Friday), and it features everything from low-budget indies to shorts to feature films and classics, and there's something to see no matter when you're on the premises: The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the 50th anniversary screening of The Blob, guest appearances, costume contests, the Gore Girl contest, and more.
Get your tickets now at horrorscifi.com, and we'll see you out there this weekend. I'll be on hand hosting the Q & A with Adrienne King on Friday night. She killed Pamela Vorhees victim in the original Friday the 13th and in large part, has some complicity in the nine-movie rampage that followed. That's a note of distinction. And I plan to be there as much as possible, except during the Texas-Oklahoma State game.
We've got a pair of flex passes to give away to a local Big Picture reader. A flex pass will get you into four movies of your choosing. The winner will be the first person who can answer this question correctly:
What the hell is a donkey punch, anyway?
E-mail us for your chance to win.

My short film "Undone" will be showing on the 25th. Get ready for the most horrific death scene that no one should have ever thought of. Just know that barbed wire makes bad owies.
