Ryan Gosling Sounds Ambivalent About Superheroes

gosling02.jpgFor the record, Ryan Gosling apparently hasn't been approached about playing the title role in The Green Lantern.

He'd be an interesting choice if DC wanted to go that route - and there were whispers that the comic book powerhouse did have him on its short list - but Gosling says, "[Playing a superhero] has never really come across my path."

Talking to MTV's Splashpage, the Oscar nominee reveals that it would be venturing into a whole new world for him. "I never really read comic books actually, so it’s not really a genre I’m familiar with,” said Gosling. “[But] I don’t know if anyone would have me as a comic book hero."

I'm sure hundreds of thousands of young women would probably argue with him on that point, but that's kind of beside the point at the moment. I guess if DC does want Gosling, they haven't told him yet. Or he's bluffing. Warner Bros. wants the movie to be released in 2010, so no matter what direction they decide to go for Green Lantern, they better do it soon.

Now, keep in mind that Gosling hasn't said he wouldn't play a superhero, just that he doesn't have a natural connection with the material. And I guess he thinks his core audience wouldn't know what to think. “You’d go for the wrong reasons. You’d get high, watch me go play [a superhero] and laugh.”

Personally, I'd rather see Gosling as a supervillain rather than a superhero. I mean, if Topher Grace can do it. OK, bad example...
