Will Aaron Eckhart Be the Next Jack Ryan?

There's plenty of intrigue surrounding Jack Ryan again, and we're not even talking about the plot for the next movie. The behind-the-scenes workings of the Tom Clancy franchise have heated up in the past few months. It began with Sam Raimi signing up to direct at least one new Ryan movie, but he announced this week that he's sticking with Spider-Man instead.

And immediately thereafter came grumblings that Paramount really wanted to get started on the follow-up to The Sum of All Fears, despite the departure of its director, and now one name may have surfaced in the search for the new Jack Ryan. Moviehole reports that Aaron Eckhart is rumored for the part, and I like that choice on many levels. He'd be good, we know that much, but he's also earned a shot at that kind of high profile role.

Eckhart confirmed about a month ago that Harvey Dent won't be involved in the Batman franchise moving forward, so he's free of any kind of major blockbuster responsibility. He'd make a damn good Captain America, but there's no way Marvel would hire a DC guy, right? Short of that, Jack Ryan is like at least a Second Lieutenant America or something. There's no offer or anything like that, just the rustlings that his name has been mentioned in discussions about the project.

Make that deal happen, I say. Now, if your bearings are a little out-of-whack on the whole Jack Ryan thing, this film won't be based on one of Tom Clancy's stories, and that's a first. I would imagine this move represents Paramount's desire to re-launch their spy line in the mold of the Bourne movies just like the Bond series did so successfully.

Because Paramount is now reportedly putting the pedal to the metal on this, we might see some more movement on the next Jack Ryan film before you know it.
