Monday, October 27, 2008 at 1:11PM Christopher Nolan Talks 'Batman 3'
The wait is finally over. Kind of.
Nolan reflects on
Heath Ledger
in the article, and expresses how "mystified" he is by the film's billion-dollar
box office take, noting that whatever comes next won't have that kind of
pressure. It's the first of a couple hints he drops in the interview with Geoff
Boucher that he won't be returning to Gotham immediately. "[M]aybe what I need
to do next is a very intimate, small story that happens to be photographed on a
ridiculously large scale. Or vice versa [laughs]."
In a new interview with The Los Angeles Times, Christopher Nolan talks for the first time about a third Batman movie. As you probably know, the director went on a long and well-deserved (and equally well-publicized) vacation following the release of The Dark Knight, and all the rumors started swirling about what villain was next and when they'd be shooting.

But enough lingering. Will he do the Batman threequel?
"Well ... let me think how to put this. There are two things to be said. One is the emphasis on story. What’s the story? Is there a story that’s going to keep me emotionally invested for the couple of years that it will take to make another one? That’s the overriding question. On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven't been too many of those either. It’s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible. I hope that was a suitably slippery answer."
It is. It doesn't take a lot of reading between the lines to see that Nolan wants to do a third Batman movie, but he wants to do it the right way. And because he hints at how obsessed he had become working in this universe for better than half a decade, I'm sure he has great affection for the work and just as much awe for the scope of it.
He didn't say it directly, but it sounds like he's going to do what he did between the first two Batman movies - walk away and do something else just to get it out of his head for a while.
No complaints here.

Colin: I just saw on the internet that Brian Austin Green wants to be the Riddler in the next Batman. I figured you can always use an outlet to make fun of David Silver.
Oh, we've already done that:

This is just what I wanted to hear and just what I thought Nolan would say.
I have a slightly different perspective from most people in this issue. I actually regard the Batman movies as interruptions. The important work that Nolan has done is the other movies, Memento, Insomna and The Prestige.
Good and popular don't always coincide, see.
Basically, I think he wants to do something more creative, with less expectations from the studio and the audience.
I'm still amazed how bloody good Insomnia is and Batman Begins annoyed me terribly as a follow up to that great film.
What Happened?
Did his balls dropped off, Hmmm?
Just Kidding!
Of course, maybe he has been pressured by the success of TDK
I Believe that sooner or later he'll sign-up for the third movie...
Despite the Fact that Heath died, I Believe that they will come up with a good storyline and plot. Of Course, with the proper execution and treatment. I believe That They'll (with his Brother, Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer) able to do it!
(For those people who believe that all third movies from a franchise sucks: The Godfather III, Spiderman 3 )
Look at the Bright side!
- Lord the Rings: Return of the King
- Bourne Ultimatum
Those are the only ones I've Seen
I believe in Christopher Nolan's Talent!
Maybe He will be the 1st Director who will make the Best Movie Trilogy the world has ever seen....
Spiderman 3 DID suck. as did XMen 3
Batman the beggining wasn't a dad movie, but wat it did do was lead into a great movie TDK.
But I'll bet this batman will set a high standard for the new generation to compete with also
I think christopher nolan wants this story to be another harry potter like run with seven or more
Runs it will be a shocker if he stops at batman 3
