Monday, October 27, 2008 at 12:54AM DiCaprio Gets His Hands on 'Ninja Scroll'
What's the deal with
Leonardo
DiCaprio and anime? He's already hooked into the live action
Akira remake, which, for the record, is getting
less than universal support, and now
Variety reports that his Appian Way will
co-produce the action thrilla
Ninja Scroll into a live action featre.

The adaptation will be written by
Alex Tse,
whose name will be a lot more recognizable in a few months - he's one of the
co-writers for
Watchmen. On top of that, Tse is working on
The Winter of Frankie Machine, another adaptation, this one to be
directed by Michael Mann and starring Robert De Niro, and the adaptation of Ray
Bradbury's The Illustrated Man.

The original film was released back in 1993, and there have been TV and comic spin-offs in the years since. As near as we can tell, this film will go back to the original and focus on that story, which is about a ninja for hire who has to stop an old enemy from toppling the government. Not to be nitpicky, but should ninja have enemies walking around? You're not a very good ninja if your enemies live. I'm just sayin'...
Warner Bros. will release Ninja Scroll; as of this moment, we don't have any names to drop as far as stars or directors are concerned.
I'll ask anime fans: Most of you are down on Akira, at least a DiCaprio-led Akira. Is this any better or should they just leave well enough alone?

I don't know. I'll say that i love ninja scroll, it is one of the best anime's ever in my opinion. Most anime movies are too complicated and filled with too many holes because of translation problems and cultural diferences. This movie is different the story is simple, but good. If it's done right the movie will be awesome. Ofcousre thats what i said about dragonball and thats not looking too good right now. For me I'd rather see them do it, then not do it.
