I was talking to a couple movie fans the other day about
nothing in particular and the subject of
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins came
up. The consensus among these fans was that McG is the wrong director to tell us
the next part of the John Connor story.
In a way, that's tough to argue.
McG
hasn't really distinguished himself as a great director in any genre, which
you'd want as a fan of Terminator, and his track record with science
fiction is non-existent. That doesn't seem to worry the director, who, among
other things is vowing to bring us a completely new kind of visual effect.

McG writes in his blog that visual effects director Charlie Gibson and his crew are brainstorming how to wow audiences, because they want to be wowed themselves.
"At some point the effects kick in and like any Terminator fan, Charlie wants his mind blown," McG says. "There's one sequence in particular where we're trying to achieve something that's never been done before. I don't want to talk about it because we haven't been successful yet ... But we're working on it."
He was tightlipped about what that effect might be trying to accomplish, but he does praise the work of his two leading men, Christian Bale and Sam Worthington.
"Christian and Sam bring power to the rolls of John Connor and Marcus Wright. This is a story of two destinies colliding. Connor is part of a resistance comprised of the ethnicities that make up the globe. This film is so much more that just Los Angeles. It reflects the global crisis of man, all of man versus machine."
I think McG is carrying a heavy burden with this film, but from the limited footage we've seen so far, he appears to be moving the franchise in the right direction. Or at least that's what the limited optimist in me thinks. Terminator Salvation will be released on May 22nd.

So the news is that they are NOT managing to do the special effects that they want.
Very reassuring.
Especially as I haven't enjoyed anything by McG.
I look at this and wonder the same thing I did about T3... why? Beyond that comes the obvious question, is there anything they could possibly tell that anyone wants to see and hear? Well I guess that's all a matter of speculation but really is this film even warranted? Fox left an axe hanging over the Sarah Connor Chronicles long enough to have many salivating for it to fall but then they decided to save the show. Presumably because they can see it turning itself around? No idea but that the show has taken a relative flogging for its quality or lack thereof should say something.
That something ought to be ..hey this story is maybe a bit long in the tooth and oh my ...no one cares anymore. To me the logical point forward from T2 would've been a T3 led by Linda Hamilton's Sarah kicking ass. I guess she'd had enough or they didn't think she could carry such a film whatever crap on my T3 dream they did. So now there's a T4 and I'm supposed to care because? I doubt the studio has even figured it out but let's keep right on kicking that dead horse anyway.
