'The Mummy' to Return from the Dead Again?

Citing a source "deep inside" Universal - and yes, I used those quotation marks to add even more possible innuendo - Cinema Blend is reporting that the studio is setting the wheels in motion for a fourth Mummy movie, most likely without Brendan Fraser.

How does this happen? Well, you see, this summer's entry in the series, The Mummy: Kiss of the Spider Woman or whatever it was, actually cashed in. It didn't make Sex and the City profit or Mamma Mia! profit, but it earned about 2.5 times its budget, and if you're a franchise, that's reason enough for one more Roman numeral.

But things will change. Cinema Blend says, "Almost no one involved with the third movie wants anything to do with The Mummy's future," pointing out that new cast member Jet Li was not a fan and that Fraser wants to focus on a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth. The website also says that Rob Cohen is persona non grata with the studio, and they'll be looking for another director if or when the fourth movie happens.

This is almost exactly what I said the studio should have done with the third movie: Retire the O'Connells altogether and let the movie be about the mummies for a change. Wisely, the end of the third film tips its hand at a South American or Central American location for the next adventure, so you just need mummies with different heroes for each movie. It's how horror franchises have worked for decades.

Of course, I don't want a fourth Mummy movie - didn't even want the third - but if they're going to do it, they may as well find a better approach.

I've been a fan of the franchise since it came out, and actually watch the first movie today. I strongly believe that a mummy movie with out Brendan Fraser wouldn't make any money. I personally wouldn't see it with out him. They all ready got rid of Rachel Weisz, and that's why the third one wasn't as good as the first 2. They either need to have the entire original cast or no more Mummy Movies at all

Without the original MUMMY cast, the mummy 4 will be a waste. Mummy 3 is good but absence of Rachel Weisz makes movie somewhat boring.

i dont think its a good idea to make mummy 4 without Brendan Fraser . look what happen to mummy 3, its a waste. i hate the girl who played eve. the girl cant act for Gods sake...i agree with everybody they all need to have the entire original cast or no more Mummy Movies at all..brendan and Rachel have very good chemistry..
put back the orginal cast and u will surely have a blockbuster movie!!!! mummy 4 starring brendan fraser and rachel weisz or DONT MAKE MUMMY 4 AT ALL!!!

If they do make a 4th mummy they need to return to the style of the 1st 2. Egyptian. the 3rd movie was an insult to the 1st 2. it was horrible. i mean c'mon. a Chinese mummy.. Mummies belong to Ancient Egypt. thats it.

As much as i liked the first two mummy films the third didnt have the same feel possibly because it wasnt all going inside tombs it was more mythical which really pushed the bar down and made everything stupid. Brendan Fraser played a good role when he had someone to protect but after a while it got boring.

The only way i see it now is if they have a brand new Mummy for the fourth who survives and reappears as the main villain in the fifth with the return of Emhotep in the sixth and final film.

Also Brendan Fraser`s charecter cant die again otherwise it will have no emotion leaving the big problem of who are they going to kill because both him and his wife have died in the series. The only thing i can think of is if there son dies in the sixth and they retire from Mummy hunting all together because of it.
