'Spider-Man 4' Hires Pulitzer Prize-Winning Writer

Ah, well, see, this is probably a good move. After
wrestling with whether or not to return for the fourth
Spider-Man movie,
Sam Raimi
finally agreed late this summer, and one of the first moves made after that has
been to hire a new writer.
If you'll recall, Raimi and his brother Ivan co-wrote the
script for
Spider-Man 3, which was about as satisfying as
a six-day-old jelly donut and lukewarm coffee. Whether or not they'll receive
some credit down the line on this project remains to be seen, because there are
always re-writes and things, but Columbia is trying to get the best writer they
can for the project, so they're negotiating with Pulitzer Prize winner
David
Lindsay-Abaire, according to
The Hollywood Reporter.

Lindsay-Abaire's Rabbit Hole picked up the Pulitzer in 2007, and it won four Tony Awards, as well, including best play. But he won't be a fish out of water when he writes Spider-Man; he's already written the script for Inkheart as well as an adaptation of Rabbit Hole, which will star Nicole Kidman. On top of all that, he's writing the book and lyrics for the Broadway musical version of Shrek.
I guess you could say he's in demand.
Lindsay-Abaire will not be the first writer assigned to Spider-Man 4; Zodiac scribe James Vanderbilt gave it a go, but I'm guessing Marvel and Columbia want to take it in another direction. Hopefully, that means they want it to go in a good direction.
