Question Thy Faith in This 'Angels & Demons' Poster
Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 7:33AM
We sure had a crazy day around these parts when we
unveiled a brilliantly conceived
fan-created poster for a sequel to The Dark
Knight. Even though it was phony, people had to gawk...like Heidi Montag in
a bikini.
Then there was a
phony poster
for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Not quite as good, but it fooled
a few people for a couple of hours.
Now there's another poster I believe is fake, for
several reasons. Two biggies: There's no studio logo on this poster anywhere
(not a deal-breaker), and it debuted at an Icelandic website, which seems a
strange place to premiere the first poster for
Angels & Demons.
As you know, Angels & Demons is the next
Dan Brown
adaptation from director
Ron Howard and the embarrassingly-coiffured
Tom Hanks.
Look closely at the gargoyle's wings. That's your visual
cue for this poster.

Incidentally, I also think the text looks a little fake,
particularly the ho-hum Verdana or Arial they used for Tom Hanks' name. I do
love the duality of the central image, but I'm going to see this one's not the
real deal, either.

What's wrong with the wings? They are different look must be symbolizing the angels (left wing) and Demons (right wing) which I think very clever execution.
I also think the text looks a little fake, particularly the ho-hum Verdana or Arial they used for Tom Hanks' name.
The font for Tom Hanks name is neither Arial or (even) Verdana!
Are you sure about what you write for this post???
It doesn't matter.
Angels & Demons has a better pace than The Da Vinci Code and the book almost reads like a script.
So, I think this one will be better.
Geez, Sheary, all I was saying was that the font for "Tom Hanks" incredibly plain, particularly because of its placement on the poster.
There's nothing wrong with the wings. The cue I'm referring to is how the poster reflects the title, with the angel wing and the demon wing. I'm not implying that it's the wings that make it look fake.I think it's very clever. That's why I said "I love the duality of the central image."
Once again, the studios need to hire this person. The Angel and Demon wings on the statue is pretty damn clever. I'm wouldn't be surprised if studios start using some of these fan-based posters in the future. It probably would be cheaper and might create more interest in the movie.
Heyyy... entered here from imb.com, lol (heidi montag news:http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2147284/news#ni0573378)
Anyway,
the postwe is really clever. I didn't even notice the different types of wings.. It's a bit TOO clever, lol.
I do agree that the font that looks like Verdana looks a bit "too simple" for a movie poster! Especially of a movie this big...
Ps, Heidi looks great in a bikini ;)
I even happy even for that because at least I have started get the first clues of this movie which I am long waiting for.
The novel was ultimate. The ultimate tribute to Science and Scientists.
And could someone tell what is that sharp pointed part protruding from his head on the Demon side ? Is just part of the hair? Just Curious...
its an ear.
Speaking of the original book... I wonder how close they're gonna keep to the ending. It could wind up really, really, really pissing off the Catholics.
I think this gargoyle is just a make-up for this movie and no such gargoyle exists in reality. But I am REALLY, REALLY curious now how this one must be looking from the front. There was a link on one site provided by a blogger which he claimed had a picture of this gargoyle from the front. But when I tried, the link was already dead. The picture had been removed.
'td', you are right, it is an ear but just infront of it I think there is more to it ... the more important part ... the MOST important part .... the HORN.
The HORN which was once considered virtuous and a sign of fertilty in Pagan religions (which followed a scientific/natural way of life) but the Catholic Church came and wrongfully declared it as a sign of the Devil in order to put those scientific religions down.
I can see this movie bringing with it ... a big, big STORM.
I am ready.
'The Da Vinci Code(2006)' was a Block Bluster hit (more than $ 700 million worldwide). But this movie is going to surpass that. This movie is going to be the next 'The Dark Knight(2008)'. Records are going to tumble.
Let's follow the path of the Illumination.
Let the Hunt for the Assassin begin.
I am ready.
There is a Trailer doing the rounds on the Internet these days (you can find it on Metacafe or youtube) and it too contains the Title of the same design as above. Is the Trailer really for this movie? And why is not the Title above and in the trailer (If it is indeed for this movie) not an ... AMBIGRAM? Ambigrams are the very soul of this story.
The poster's the real McCoy. It's on the Sony website now.
Great poster. Clean design, a second layer of subtle imagery if you care to look for it. And I think the decision to not use an ambigram on the poster is more about legibility than anything. In the end, these posters are designed to sell the movie. Why make them difficult to read?
