'My Bloody Valentine' Poster is Strangely Familiar

Though it would hardly prove memorable for much else, I thought the remake of Prom Night had a really eye-catching movie poster. Is it the best of the year? No, but for a movie with nary a chance of being good, it really stood. It's kind of like when a school wins one of those national cheerleading competitions but its football team was last in its district.

I've always maintained that posters are separate from the movies, anyway. The director doesn't make the one-sheets; a whole other company does that.

In keeping with the Prom Night theme, there's this slick-but-derivative poster for My Bloody Valentine. Good use of color desaturation, there's the reminder that, yes, Lionsgate is wasting 3-D on this remake, and it gets points for being memorable.

Unfortunately, it also loses points for ripping of the "Why So Serious?" Dark Knight poster, which is one of the very best in at least the last 15 years with that ghastly image of the Joker painting on a smile in blood.

A rip-off? Yeah, even if it's an unconscious one. It could be a lot worse, which I hope is something we can also say about the movie. We'll find out definitely on January 16th (as if that's really up in the air).
