Paul Newman Film Festival to Benefit Hole in the Wall Gang

Paying tribute to one of the greatest talents in show business, Harkins Theatres will present a week-long Paul Newman film festival from Friday, October 10th - Thursday, October 16th at the legendary Valley Art, the oldest theater in the state of Arizona.

All proceeds from the festival will The Painted Turtle, Newman's California-based Hole in the Wall camp. As you probably know, Hole in the Wall was one of Newman's many philanthropic endeavors, and since opening in 1988, they have become the world's largest group of camps for children with serious medical conditions. The Painted Turtle is the only multi-disease camp in the Hole in the Wall family.

"Paul Newman was one of the finest actors of the twentieth century. He dedicated his life and his career to giving back to the community, and his contributions will be felt for decades to come," said Dan Harkins, owner of Harkins Theatres. "I personally look forward to seeing some of Paul’s finest work on the silver screen again, and I hope the rest of the Valley will join me in that sentiment."

The films chosen for the festival are Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Verdict, Slap Shot, Road to Perdition, and The Sting. You'll have multiple opportunities to see each film; the Newman fest will run four films everyday.

If you've never seen Newman's blue eyes pierce through a movie screen, here's an excellent chance to do it, and since there's not a bad film in this bunch, you simply can't lose. I'm personally most interested in seeing Butch Cassidy and Cool Hand Luke in a theater, which I can do at 5:50 and 8:20pm on Sunday the 12th.

The Valley Art is located on Mill Avenue in downtown Tempe. For tickets and more details about showtimes, log on to HarkinsTheatres.com beginning Wednesday.
