Julie Taymor Gender-Bends 'The Tempest' with Helen Mirren

a terrific
assemblage of talent for a 2010 remake of
King Lear already making headlines,
The Hollywood Reporter today announced that Across the Universe director
Julie Taymor
will direct a new version of
The Tempest starring recent Oscar winner
Helen Mirren
as Prospero...er, Prospera, in this case.Yes, Taymor has changed the gender of one of Shakespeare's more interesting characters, and she is surrounding Mirren with Djimon Housou, Alfred Molina, Jeremy Irons, Ben Whishaw, Felicity Jones...and Russell Brand from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Uh-huh. Geoffrey Rush may also join the ensemble. Taymor has done the Bard thing before, directing 1999's Titus.
