Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 9:06AM Four-Minute Trailer for Tony Jaa's 'Ong Bak 2'
I'm extremely hopeful that the sequel
Ong Bak 2
completely rules.
Tony Jaa is not much of an actor, even when you limit it to
just martial arts stars, but he is a jaw-dropping physical performer.

He proved
it in
Ong Bak and in
The Protector, in which he had one of the most amazing
fight sequences I've ever seen, ascending an almost endless flight of stairs,
battling overmatched opponents for about a good six minutes. It was one
continuous shot, which meant that they probably had to do a few takes to get it
right, and though Jaa was clearly gassed at the end, it was a damned impressive
display.

Ong Bak 2 debuts in Thailand this December, and we'll get a domestic release here in the United States in 2009, I would suspect. I hope all the stops are pulled out, and from the following R-rated trailer, it looks like that may be the case.
Incidentally, Ong Bak 2 also marks Jaa's directorial debut, and I know it's just a trailer and any rookie director gets lots of help, but it appears as though he knows what he's doing.

Wow you just reminded me that I need to catch up on my Netflix viewing. I had seen Ong Bak months ago and loved it. I have the Protector at home now but haven't gotten around to watching as yet. I never went into Ong Bak looking for great acting chops on the part of Jaa. Having suffered thru some rather blah Jet Li flicks, I was after kickass martial arts and Jaa definitely delivered. It's great to hear that another Ong Bak is on its way and the trailer just makes me wish it were longer and without all the breaks in action. A definite on the must see list.
The man is a bruising machine.
