Trailer - Kate Winslet in 'The Reader'
Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 4:42PM
We finally have the chance to take a look at one of the
major Oscar contenders this year, or at least, that's the presumption.
Stephen
Daldry's
The Reader is based on
Bernard
Schlink's bestselling 1995 novel about a teenager named Michael who
has a passionate affair with a woman decades his senior during World War II.
Then one day, she's gone and doesn't resurface until many years later, in a
rather shocking way.
Along with
Revolutionary Road, The Reader gives
Kate Winslet
two chances at an Oscar this year. If she's nominated for both, she would have
seven envelopes, and she'd be the youngest actor to ever reach that milestone.
Obviously, she's the older woman in the story, and
David Kross
and Ralph
Fiennes portray Michael at various points in his life.

The Weinstein Company is putting a lot of its eggs in this basket, having recently pushed back the release dates on several other fall films to focus on this movie's chances.
The Reader is scheduled to be released on December 10th.
