Dark New 'Star Trek' Posters

We can only wonder if these new posters for J.J. Abrams' reinvented Star Trek have anything to do with the entirely-too-metrosexual magazine covers featuring the new Kirk and Spock (Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto). I mean, they do look tougher now. Not oilfield, coal miner, UFC fighter tough, but you're not immediately drawn to their manscaped eyebrows anymore. That's a start.

We've seen hints of these images before, in the first batch of Trek posters released during Comic Con. But you can plainly see the shadows have been adjusted to make these guys look more mysterious or more serious or something. Compare and contrast.

Thanks to Screen Rant for the posters

I'm reminded of that great side-by-side of the O.J. Simpson covers from 1994, when The Juice had his mugshot altered on Time but not on Newsweek, and the covers gave off different vibes. Same deal here, minus the double murder.

Also, so far as I know, there won't be any O.J. footage attached to the front of Quantum of Solace this weekend in theaters, but you will see a new Star Trek trailer then.

I like the first batch of posters better. In this set, I'm not so sure that Kirk wants to score chicks so much as I am that he wants to kidnap them and make necklaces out of their fingernails. Are you sure these posters aren't for the next "Saw" movie instead? If Spock's head were only in some sort of contraption...

This movie will be more disappointing than Get Smart.
