Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 4:49PM Commies Hate Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko
Olga Kurylenko is making all kinds of
headlines. The lovely Ukrainian model-turned-actress (featured
on the cover of this month's
German Maxim, if you need more proof) is
definitely going to turn some heads in
Quantum of Solace, which is released in
American theaters this weekend.
But it's not all positive news for Kurylenko. The
Communist Party of St. Petersburg has penned
an open
letter to the actress accusing her of assisting "the killer of
hundreds of Soviet people and their allies." That person she's aiding is, of
course, James Bond. Who isn't real. However, the Communists say that 007 has
worked for decades "under the orders of Thatcher and Reagan to destroy the
USSR."

Frankly, if they had a problem, they should have raised their hand while there was still a USSR.
"The Soviet Union educated you, cared for you and brought you up for free but no one suspected that you would commit this act of intellectual and moral betrayal," said the statement. Taking it one step further, the group's Sergei Malenkovich maintained that Quantum of Solace wants to show "a Ukrainian girl sleeps with an American. It's a part of information and psychological war."
I suppose that part of this information war is that neither James Bond nor Daniel Craig are American, and that the character Kurylenko plays in the film is Bolivian.
The Communist Party of St. Petersburg has had a busy year, condemning Cate Blanchett's performance in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull anti-Soviet propaganda. He did not, however, question the aliens, which would be the first place I'd start picking apart that movie.
