DiCaprio Says He Won't Act in 'Akira' or 'Ninja Scroll'

Anime fans may be breathing a little easier now:
Leonardo
DiCaprio has officially denied that he's looking to star in either
one of the properties his Appian Way production shingle has picked up this year,
meaning you won't see him in
Akira or
Ninja Scroll.
But he confirms that they are getting made, which may
just cause you to hyperventilate all over again.

“We’re waiting for the final draft of the script [for Akira],” DiCaprio told MTV. Gary Whitta is writing that screenplay with talk centering on the very talented Joseph Gordon Levitt in the role of Tetsuo. If I were Leo, I'd wait to see what the die-hard Dragonball fans think of Justin Chatwin's work as Goku before locking up a Western actor for a big role in Akira. So far, the reception for Chatwin has been frosty at best.
“I’m a big fan of Japanese anime," says Leo. "[Akira] and another project called Ninja Scroll we’re trying to get developed and made into a movie, and I know there a lot of loyal fans out there of the project and die-hard fans, so we’re going to try to do the best job we possibly can and we’re not going to make the movie until the script is in the right shape.”
The script is another issue fans seem to be having with Dragonball, so perhaps DiCaprio is already learning from that example. But he does say he's not interested in acting in either one of these films, just producing the projects. Probably a wise move.
