- Get The Big Picture

They still haven't shut down The People's Choice Awards, and they'll air next January, hosted again by Queen Latifah. These awards, of course, are very rarely indicative of anything else. Sometimes you'll see some carryover from the Golden Globes to the Oscars, and there are a couple of film critics' groups that are usually good predictors of the Academy Awards, too, but The people's Choice Awards can really only give you pointers in your Blockbuster Movie Awards office pool.

It's the 35th annual celebration, which means prior to 1974, people had no choice. That really is a shame, isn't it?

This might all see like I'm making fun of this awards show, because I am. Look: They've got 27 Dresses in the Favorite Comedy Movie category. Come on! No Tropic Thunder? Hell, they didn't even give Sex and the City the obligatory nomination. And Reese Witherspoon is up for Favorite Female Movie Star even though her last starring role was in Rendition last year...that is, unless you count her three minutes on screen in Penelope. It's a wee bit silly.
