Rumor Patrol: Paul McCartney Tuning Up for 'Shrek'?
Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 9:26PM
It's grain of salt time again.
The Sun, which is not the world's most valuable
source for news, says that
Paul McCartney will voice one of the characters
in the upcoming
Shrek Goes Fourth. It's not the first time this flick has had a big name attached for one of the supporting roles alongside Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, and Eddie Murphy. Remember the Tom Cruise-as-the-villain rumors? Of course, Cruise played a great villain in Tropic Thunder, so he'd probably do a good job in Shrek.
As for what role awaits McCartney - or Macca (that's what they call him in the British press, you know) - The Sun has a crude Photoshopping of the Beatle done up as an ogre, but the article says less about the specifics of the rumored deal and more about who bought drinks backstage at the MTV Europe awards, Paul, Bono, or Kanye.
It seems like a strange pairing to me: Why McCartney? About the only thing I could come up with is that they want one of his songs on the soundtrack and this is part of the arrangement. Unfortunately, it's probably one of his new songs.
We'll wait this one out, because I doubt there's any validity to it. Of course, he did make Give My Regards to Broad Street, so anything's possible.
