The Women of 'The Spirit'

Is there a more love-it-or-hate-it movie in the next few months than Frank Miller's The Spirit? If you're new to all of this, the quick blah blah blah is that Miller, the comic book writer of 300 and Sin City (which he co-directed), is adapting the decades-old comic series The Spirit, created by his friend, Will Eisner.

It's Miller's second film, but his first as a solo director, and a lot of the criticism leveled at The Spirit to this point has been due to how much the trailers look like Sin City as opposed to the original comic books.

I've liked a lot of the posters, except the most recent ones, and I think clips from the trailers show some promise visually. But the dialogue sounds atrocious and it feels extremely campy. However, we're only seeing things out of context, so Miller may have created a very cool little universe here. But the trailers so far haven't been all that convincing.

One thing we do know is that The Spirit has one of the great slumber party casts in recent memory - Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Sarah Paulson, and Stana Katic. And courtesy of MTV, here's a new featurette on the women of The Spirit:

We'll see how it all comes together when The Spirit is released on December 25th. Maybe Miller can save this thing after all.
