Terrific New Poster for 'The Wrestler'

There is plenty of support for Mickey Rourke's performance in the new drama The Wrestler. Almost unanimously, Rourke's work has been seen as career-salvaging, and most pundits think he has a good shot at an Oscar nomination. Who would've thought that after Another 9 1/2 Weeks and several years in the boxing ring?

Of course, great actors still need great directors, and Rourke is working alongside Darren Aronofsky in The Wrestler. Even without having seen the film, I think it's safe to say that this is the most commercial thing Aronofsky has ever made. The film did very well at Toronto and Venice almost simultaneously, and as a result, Fox Searchlight picked up the film for distribution this fall.

If you've made an independent flick, there can be no better news right now than hearing Fox Searchlight is interested in it. In the past few years, they simply haven't missed. And if they have, it's not on a high profile number like this. That studio just knows how to manage their resources late in the year. So can this make it three years in a row for Searchlight, joining Juno and Little Miss Sunshine as Oscar party crashers?

There's finally a good high-quality version of the official first poster for The Wrestler, which we snagged at Rope of Silicon. I think it's just about the perfect poster for this movie.

The Wrestler makes its way to theaters in late December and early January.

Such exciting possibilities, can't wait to see the film for myself. I hope Mickey receives an Oscar Nom, after what he's been through he deserves it.
