The New 'Star Trek' Trailer, For Reals This Time
Monday, November 17, 2008 at 12:50PM
Over the weekend, we showed you the camera phone version
of the new
Star Trek trailer, and as promised, here's the
genuine article.

Thanks to Movie Web for the trailer

I said when we posted the first one that I like the new qualities director J.J. Abrams appears to be bringing to the party, but at the same time, I think he's keeping enough of the Roddenberry stuff intact. Could be an interesting mix.
Thanks to Movie Web for the trailer
Star Trek hits theaters May 8, 2009.

Mmmm... yummy. It looks like TV.

Wow. I was holding out hope for this movie but, that trailer has all but dashed that.
Apparently Kirk wasn't an intelligent, driven, dynamic overachiever; he was juvenile delinquent prick who just wanted to get away and wound up captaining a start ship instead of taking a southwest fun fare.
I thought Quintos was a solid pick for Spock but, from this, it seems the film makers are determined to completely remake the characters. Feels a little like they're makign "Big Brother" for the early 20's Star Trek bridge crew. I wonder who will be voted out of the house first?!
Wrong kind of drama, Mr. Abrams.
Lastly, I'll give you artistic license on the characters. Fine. remake and revamp them for a new generation of movie goer, maybe it will work.
But the one character...the most consistent and I daresay most important character; the one that need absolutely no re-tooling....
The Enterprise.
WHAT.
THE.
FUNYON.
Is that sterile, white, plastic encased fragile looking frigging terrarium they are standing in?!
Its really starting to look like this movie is going to be made with epic proportions of suck.
I was born in '63 and as one of the many who grew up with these characters and feels a life long affinity for them, I have to say that I really think the Star Trek franchise has passed away.
Well, I'm not sure the Star Trek franchise is dead. It has more or less unlimited possibilities.
But going puerile is not one of them.
It just means that JJ Abrams will be exposed as the faker he is a bit sooner than previously postulated.
