Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 12:41AM Join The Big Picture for a Free Foreign Film This Thursday
As part of Arizona State University's Future Arts
Research (F.A.R.) symposium, The Desert Between Us, yours truly will be hosting
a free screening of the
Abbas Kiarostami film,
Taste of Cherry, this Thursday night at the
Harkins Valley Art on Mill Avenue in Tempe.
The film won the Palme D'Or at the 1998 Cannes Film
Festival, and in a body of very impressive work, Taste of Cherry is
probably the most well-known by Kiarostami, an Iranian New Wave director who has
been making films for almost 50 years. As part of our special screening of the
film, we'll also have a brief lecture, question and answer session and a
presentation of clips from other Kiarostami works relative to the theme of the
evening.
The movie starts at 7pm this Thursday night, and
admission is free. So, if you're down for learning a thing or two and checking
out a great and very unique foreign film, we'll see you at The Valley Art this
Thursday for Kiaromstami's Taste of Cherry.

The symposium itself lasts from November 20th - 22nd and will provide a link between the Sonoran desert in Arizona with desert landscapes around the world, connecting the cultures through the arts. It's a thoughtful and insightful few days put together by Marilu Knode at F.A.R., who was kind enough to bring me on board to help with the position of film in this cultural exchange.
