Over 500 Midnight Showings of 'Twilight' Already Sold Out
Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:22PM
I was in a Borders Books earlier today and they had this
massive display of
Twilight merchandise - books, calendars,
soundtracks, sun block, you name it - and it occurred to me again that this is
not merely a 13 - 18-year-old phenomenon. Though it is primarily a female
fixation, its audience is much wider than you probably think, and when you add
in the mothers of teenagers obsessed with this film, I think we're going to see
a pretty big number come Monday morning.
To that end,
Fandango
has announced that more than 500 midnight shows for this Friday have already
sold out. I got my ticket last week, actually, choosing to be in the middle of
the madness to watch the film rather than the cold, antiseptic environs of a
press screening. (That means you'll have to wait until about 3am Friday to get
our review, but no biggie).

Cinema Blend says 86% of all tickets being sold on Fandango are for Twilight, which is a staggering number. Of course, Blend is also disparaging the appeal of the film, intimating that all of its audience will come on Friday. I don't think that's true in the slightest. And I also expect it to have a very strong second weekend because of the Thanksgiving break.
But if you were hoping to see it at midnight this Friday, you may have missed your chance in some parts of the country.

I was able to score some tickets to the premier tonight at Tempe Marketplace, but I'm guessing I'll have to be inline at least 3 hours early just to get a seat. The books themselves were really well written, but from the previews, this movie looks like it might be a big disappointment. I hope it is worth the 5+ hours I'll be investing in trying to see this tonight.
Oh the power of tweens. Get the tweens hooked, but make sure it is good enough for an adult to like it. Step 3 profit.
I don't get it. I just don't get it. Then again, I'm not 13 years old.
While the fans will be there, will those who haven't read the books recommend the film to their friends? Like John M. said, the previews are not encoraging.
It will get a fair amount of curiosity business, probably as much as anything else. I don't think people will run away from it, because it's a vampire movie and a love story, and the soundtrack might be up some people's alley, even if they're not familiar with the books.
This thing is going to be huge as you've predicted of course. I know of 4 women in their 30's who can't get enough of the books and are salivating over this movie. Kind of like you Josie....I just don't get it. I used to think I didn't get it because I'm not a tweener....but then I heard conversations between these women in which one of them excitedly said "Oh no...he REALLY loves her!"
I dunno...but it'll be huge...
