Nicole Kidman Ponders Retirement
Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 12:35AM
While I don't think this is a Joaquin Phoenix moment,
Nicole
Kidman recently said she doesn't know what her future holds, and it
may not
include acting for very much longer.
Speaking at a press junket in Sydney for
Baz Luhrmann's
upcoming epic
Australia, co-starring the newly-minted Sexiest
Man Alive,
Hugh Jackman, Kidman told reporters she could more or less give it
all up tomorrow. "In terms of my future as an actor and stuff, I don't know,"
she said.

Added the Oscar winner, "I am in a place in my life where ... I've had some great opportunities and I may just choose to have some more children. I've no idea what is in my future but I am very at peace with where I want to be. There are many things I want to do besides act."
Following a very successful string of films that coincided quite nicely with her split from first husband Tom Cruise, Kidman hit the pinnacle by winning an Oscar in 2001. In recent years, her commercial fare like The Invasion and Stepford Wives have been disappointments and her more artsy choices like Fur, Birth, and Margot and the Wedding have left critics divided. They also failed to catch fire at the box office.
Kidman, to her credit, doesn't appear to be beating herself up over the fact that she has not lived up to her own lofty pricetag. "That's my body of work. I am not going to apologize for it. I have kind of unusual taste and sometimes it's mainstream and a lot of times it's not," she said.
Because she has proven that she can be interesting, I'd rather Kidman not retire. And really, not all of the failures haven't been her fault. Nobody was going to see Birth, and she was quite good in it. And...uh, yeah, OK, so that one's not on her at all. Some of the others she should have just avoided altogether.

id rather not see her retire too. shes a hollywood A-list legend that should continue act as long as she can same with angelina, julia and halle. i hope she wont consider permanently retiring.
Nicole should retire Botox.....it's ruining her career. Hey, I'm all for banishing wrinkles, but there is something as "too much of a good thing."
