Unbelievably Good Trailer for 3-D Stop-Motion 'Coraline'

Wow. Just wow.

I caught the trailer for the new stop-motion animated film Coraline just now and...wow. It's from Henry Selick, who is often incorrectly overlooked for directing Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, perhaps because it's commonly called Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. But Selick directed it. As well as James and the Giant Peach. And OK...yes, Monkeybone, but work with me on this.

The point is, based on the footage you'll see here as well as the addictive production videos available at the film's website, Nightmare Before Christmas is minor league stuff compared to Coraline.

Selick, who we don't believe is the same guy who played Magnum, P.I., adapted Coraline from Neil Gaiman's novel and directed it, too. If I were boiling it down for you, I'd say it looks like a mix of Beetlejuice and Narnia, if I might be so bold. And good gravy, the imagination at work here is just stupendous. Oh yeah, and it'll be in 3-D.

Trailer Addict's got your hookup

That's Dakota Fanning as the voice of Coraline, by the by. The movie opens on February 6th.

Now for the real fun...

Jim Dorey at MarketSaw had some help cracking the key codes for production videos of Corlaine that are even cooler than the trailer you just watched. So go over to Coraline.com and where it tells you to submit a key, use one of the following words: Buttoneyes, Stopmotion, Moustachio, Armpithair, Puppetlove, or Sweaterxxs.

Enjoy all the videos. They're really worth the effort.

It's Moustachio, of course.
