Update on 'World of Warcraft' Movie
Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 1:07PM
At an event christening its new expansion
Wrath of the
Lich King, Blizzard Entertainment VP
Frank Pearce
commented recently on the future of
World of Warcraft. Lich King sold about 3
million copies in one day, the fastest-selling game of all time, so Warcraft
clearly still has remarkable support. He confirmed that there would be another
game expansion in about a year, and he backed up a statement he made a few
months ago concerning a World of Warcraft movie.
Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight, 300,
Watchmen) is currently trying to assign some names to write the
screenplay and find someone to direct it, so it’s still really early in
production,” Pearce told
MTV. “They want to make sure they get the right
talent for those different parts, especially the screenwriting, because that’s
the foundation for the movie.”

There has been some debate on how that movie should and would progress. Would it be live action or would a CGI invention that mirrored the game be a better way to go. Pearce says don't hold your breath for a full CGI film. “[The idea] has come up in discussions but it’s not something we’ve really considered because it takes so long to generate just the brief amount of footage that we create for the game,”
“It would be definitely be really cool. There’s no question about that, it’s just that the quantity of work that it would take is more than we’re willing to take on at this point," he added.
There is no doubt that the movie would do well, and the best thing they've done so far is partnering with Legendary, a company that not only understands this kind of project but also how to make a film that fits its audience based on the source material and how to assist the distributing studio in marketing the film to attract new fans.
Originally, the World of Warcraft movie was scheduled for 2009, but we can forget about that for the time being. I wonder where the die-hards stand on this. They usually come out in droves for video game movies, even though they generally don't like the results. And since this one would necessarily have to create its own story rather than relying on the arc of the game, that could be a high hurdle for fans.

This movie in all likelyness will very much mirror LOTR. Humans - Orcs - Elves -
That being said us fans will probably fall the way of the DBZ fans, if ti looks bad they will be more then vocal. That being said Blizzard is known for quality games, and even canceling games in development (with more then a year development time) because it was not meeting the standards. So I have to believe that if Blizzard releases anything it will be quality. They are also known for pushing back release dates so this wont be released for some time.
I can't wait for this movie to be released. I hope Blizzard will not disappoint the fans of this game. Making this movie great and converting non-players to play the game will not only increase their sales in accounts but also their books, CCG, toys, apparels and WoW gold.
Looking forward to watch this movie. Ü
