For Your Consideration - Heath Ledger in 'The Dark Knight'

We officially kicked off our For Your Consideration coverage about ten days ago with a look at Warner Bros.' official awards-friendly website. It only featured The Dark Knight and Gran Torino, the new Clint Eastwood movie due out in December. Does that mean they're punting on the rest of their movies? I don't know, but it's odd that they'd have Gran Torino on there already and not some of their earlier films, like Body of Lies, Appaloosa, and even for technical awards, Speed Racer and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

But the studio is, no doubt, behind The Dark Knight, as evidenced by the new full-page ad in Variety touting some guy in make-up.

I still think Heath Ledger has the best shot to win Best Supporting Actor, and the movie's best shot to win a major award. We'll update the For Your Consideration files soon; we got a fresh batch of screeners from the indie studios this past week and I expect the majors and mini-majors will try to get us a few titles to watch over the four-day weekend.

Heath Ledger deserves the Best Supporting Actor award more than anyone else this year by far. He just threw himself into the role and made his Joker the Joker. The Academy doesn't know what a awesome performance is if Heath doesn't win.
