Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 4:19AM Suprise of the Year: 'Twilight' Sequel Announced
In a press release posted on the studio's official
website,
Summit Entertainment has shocked the world by announcing a sequel to
Twilight.

Considering that the film is based on the first in a four-book series that sold millions of copies and that Twilight might have a bigger opening weekend than Return of the King, Attack of the Clones, and the most recent Harry Potter movie, the news that there will be a sequel is kind of like Jose Canseco admitting he used steroids 15 years after everyone else figured it out.
Of course they're going to make a sequel. They were going to all along. Granted, nobody expected this kind of response, like possibly top 20 all-time opening weekend response, but Summit and author Stephenie Meyer knew they were making a hit. Now comes the hard part: Making another one.
"I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment," said Meyer. "I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on New Moon."
I wonder if director Catherine Hardwicke will return. I don't see why not; she really understands teenagers, both as cast members and audience members, incredibly well. The script for Twilight is pretty weak, but Hardwicke's directorial concepts were solid. Obviously, the whole cast will be back. None of them are big enough stars outside of this universe to pull a Shelley Long, and they'll only become bigger stars throughout the franchise, particularly Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

was there any doubt ? http://www.musicnewsnet.com/2008/11/twilight-soundtrack-and-new-moon-sequel-announced-.html
I have to disagree, the script was very close to the book, I was able to predict lines.I have to say Catherine Hardwicke is what ruined the movie; she also directed Thirteen, and the story was good, but the directorial perspective was horrid. You can definitely tell her work when you see it. On a lighter note, I am ecstatic about new moon I hope the phenomenon continues through breaking dawn, just without Catherine Hardwicke.
