Monday, November 24, 2008 at 4:38AM Weekend Recap: 'Twilight,' 'Bourne' Again and Again, 'Warcraft' Movie News
It was a fascinating weekend at the movies. Rarely,
maybe every three or four years, there's a movie that literally comes out of
nowhere and becomes the most talked about thing in the industry. It's fair to
say that happened with The Passion of the Christ, although with a star as big as
Mel Gibson making a controversial movie about Jesus, that had lots of help.
But it's certainly the case for Twilight, which two months ago was the undercard for The Day The Earth Stood Still on December 12th. Now it will probably outperform that movie at the box office. Everything came together for Twilight, and while it wasn't an across-the-board record breaker, it had the fourth biggest opening of the year, which nobody expected about a week ago.
But that wasn't the only story over the weekend (although we, of course, covered that too):
Arrested Development no longer in a state of arrested development
The Heath Ledger Oscar campaign has begun
New Star Trek character posters
Bourne will be back for three more films
Video game honcho updates World of Warcraft movie
Twilight: Weekend box office and sequel news
And here are a few stories we didn't cover:

Pirates director to remake monster movie Host (Shock Till You Drop)
Cahiers du Cinema's latest very snooty list of the 100 greatest films ever made (Telegraph)

Actors will vote on SAG strike (The Hollywood Reporter)
