Trailer - Julia and Clive Practice 'Duplicity'

This trailer was not at all what I expected. Duplicity comes from Tony Gilroy, who wrote some of the best dialogue around in 2007 with Michael Clayton. That's a pretty serious flick, and with a name like Duplicity, you're not exactly expecting laughs.

But check it out: Julia Roberts (remember her?) and Clive Owen are scheming and double-dealing Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti. And it looks positively light and breezy, definitely not like Michael Clayton.

Con men movies should be fun, though, right? If they were all dour and gloomy and took place in Youngstown, Ohio instead of resort town, nobody watching the movies would ever want to do it.

Trailer Addict: The Best a Man Can Get

Duplicity opens on March 20th. I wonder if Julia's still got the ability to manufacture a hit. Very few women have ever been able to open movies the way she could once upon a time. This might be a good vehicle for her to do so again.

It couldn't be better casting: The biggest female movie star ever paired with the guy who elicited the best scenes of her career in Closer, both of whom are standing on the shoulders of two of the finest supporting actors around. Yeah, that's not bad.

Looks good and it's high time Clive took a run at lightening the f#*k up! It will be nice to see him in a flick that doesn't make me want to open a vein. Don't get me wrong, he's good, but oh sooooo serious. This looks like fun!

I agree with Clive needing to loosen up. For years I thought he was a pretty limited actor simply because he just moped the whole time. Incidentally, "moped" - as it to be sullen - is spelled just like "moped," the motor scooter that is about the least mopey thing in the world.
