Check Out Depp and Bale in 'Public Enemies'

It's hard not to expect great things from a crime movie
starring
Johnny Depp and
Christian Bale, especially when it's directed
by Michael
Mann. That's the case with
Public Enemies, which Universal has enough
faith in to release in the middle of summer next year.

Public Enemies opens July 1st.
Depp stars as John Dillinger, the notorious Chicago bank robber gunned down in the Biograph Theatre in 1934, or at least, that's the story. There are plenty of people who believe Dillinger wasn't killed, a pretty romantic notion that probably spawned because so many people actually thought of him as kind of a Depression-era Robin Hood. However, there may have been some weird physical differences between the Dillinger of police and medical records and the body autopsied in 1934. Bale will play Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent assigned to track him down, a road that eventually led him to the Biograph in July of '34.
Empire has some new looks at the stars of the film, and I think when you combine their fan bases with this classic story, it's sure to be a hit. But can it be a blockbuster coming so soon after Transformers?
