Josh Brolin Passed on 'Terminator' Role

joshbrolin.jpgI don't remember an official announcement that Josh Brolin was in the running to play a Terminator in next summer's Terminator Salvation, and I don't remember when the announcement was made that he wasn't in the movie. All I know is he was rumored for the role once upon a time and now he's not involved.

Brolin told MTV that he was handed a script and that he ultimately passed on the opportunity. Gee, that had to test his mettle as a guy who had fought for years to gain some credibility as a legitimate A-list actor.

“Yeah. I talked to Christian [Bale] for a couple hours,” Brolin recalled. “I really liked the script though I hear that’s not what they filmed. The one I read was very interesting and dark."

As for why he passed: Gut instinct. "I didn’t think it felt right,” he said.

I have to wonder why the script would be changed from something interesting and dark to whatever it became, if that's indeed what happened. Certainly, I don't expect Terminator Salvation to be along the lines of Step Brothers or anything, but you'd think dark and interesting would be two adjectives you'd want for a Terminator script.

Still, you can't help but think something might have been altered based on Brolin's other comment on the subject: “I saw [Bale] recently and I asked him how it was and he said, ‘it’s alright.’”

Let's hope it's better than alright, and let's also hope that whatever Brolin made instead of Terminator is better than alright, too, or else he could've missed out on a great opportunity.

Too bad. Brolin would have stolen a couple of scenes, I am certain.

Maybe he should be dubbed the "Reluctant Actor" now, as he seems to require some serious persuasion to do roles.
