Monday, November 3, 2008 at 1:42AM Clint Eastwood to Play Mark Twain?
The last time we saw
Clint Eastwood
in a movie was Million Dollar Baby. That was a couple of years ago and it
was generally believed that Eastwood hung up his drama masks with that role. In
fact, between 1990 and 2000, Eastwood appeared in nine films, and since then,
only two.
That quasi-retirement will end this December with
Eastwood's starring role as a racist Korean War veteran in
Gran Torino. But that performance must have
reignited something in the 78-year-old, because if producer
Albert Ruddy
has his story straight, Eastwood will be back in front of the camera next
spring.

Talking about a litany of irons he has in the fire, Ruddy told Moviehole, "I'm doing another movie with Clint in the spring called Remembering Mark Twain. He's directing the movie and he's gonna bookend the movie playing Samuel Clemens in the hospital."
Adds the producer, "It's a really sweet beautiful movie. So that's what I'm all about."
That's a double shot of news, because the only movie we knew that Eastwood is working on next is The Human Factor, a historical drama about Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman), the end of Apartheid, and the 1995 Rugby World Cup game that reunited South Africa. So the fact that he continues to work on film after film with very little space in between is admirable, and the decision to play Mark Twain is certainly not something I expected from him.

Spike Lee just announced that he is going to play Frederick Douglas in an unnamed production too...
Can't wait for the sparring matches!
