I'd have a greater sense of glee about sharing these
pictures if they were tied to a potential Best Picture campaign or something.
But since
The Road moved to 2009, they're just pictures
for a movie I'm looking forward to.

With the Oscar race wide open, it would be great if the
studio can get the version of The Road they want by Christmas, but given Bob
and Harvey's history with campaigning for awards, they can't just finish it and
book a few theaters and expect to have much of a chance. We don't have a release
date yet, but we'll keep you posted.
The Weinstein Company moved this from their late '08 slate, and the belief is it's related to a post-production concern and not negative reactions to the film that director John Hillcoat will need to change. It's based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Cormac McCarthy, and the last time one of his books was turned into a movie, we got No Country for Old Men. This time around, it's a post-apocalyptic cross-country journey featuring a father and a son (Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, and Robert Duvall make appearances.

Yup, I have a man-crush on Viggo, but I don't want him to get played out a-la Clive Owen. I think the Weinsteins were smart to move this picture to '09. It will give me more time to enjoy the special features on that Appaloosa DVD I hope Santa brings me...
