'Role Models' Star Paul Rudd Apologizes for 'Over Her Dead Body'

It took some time, but a movie finally came along this year to dethrone Over Her Dead Body as the worst film of 2008. The offending movie was, of course, Disaster Movie, which simply couldn't be worse. You know it's bad when the celebrity impressions are so terrible that other characters have to introduce them.

"Dr. Phil," exclaims one character when a bald fat guy started talking with a southern accent. "Is that Jessica Simpson," asked partygoers when a blonde in a football jersey sang the national anthem. She neither looked nor sounded like Jessica Simpson, hence the confusion.

And that tells you how deep the ditch was for Over Her Dead Body. The movie stars Eva Longoria-Parker as a dead woman haunting the new girlfriend of her old boyfriend (Paul Rudd). We like Rudd. He's very funny, and the couple of conversations we've had with him have been quite entertaining. And we felt sorry for him being in this mess, writing at the time:

"It’s hard not to watch his eyes in Over My Dead Body and see the questions lurking behind them: 'How did I sink this low?' 'Where did it all go so wrong for me?' 'I am getting paid for this, right?'"

Now Rudd has rebounded. He's in Role Models this weekend, and his performance really resonated with the Los Angeles Times, which bemoaned the fact that comedic performances like Rudd's are too seldom considered for Oscars. And while the subject should have remained Role Models, Rudd finally talked about Over Her Dead Body in an interview with Ain't It Cool News.

"I’m totally willing to talk about it. You know what, it’s time I did. I have some explaining to do," laughed Rudd. "I was so terrified to read any comments of anyone, and I would, too, on occasion, and it was, like, ‘Oh, god, they’re so right. Fuck me!'"

Rudd added, "That was tough, that was a tough moment in my life."

The film wasn't around very long, only lasting seven weeks in theaters, and it really got to Rudd. "I’ve certainly done some clunkers, for sure. And, I take it really hard. It really bums me out," he said. "And, that one…I got kind of depressed when it came out, in all honesty."
