'Pink Panther 2' Trailer Proves Steve Martin's Just a Hack Now

Words can't express my disappointment with Steve Martin over making not just one Pink Panther movie, but two.

Here's the trailer for the sequel to one of the worst movies of 2006, which featured the worst performance in Martin's career. If you can't bear to watch, here are the lowlights: Remember that stupid dialect coach he went to in the first movie, in that ridiculous scene with the, uh, catchphrase, "I want to buy a hamburger"? That's back. Great. Oh, and apparently, the more often you fall, the funnier it gets. In 150 seconds, I counted nine falls. It's like watching a WNBA game.

On second thought, give me a WNBA game instead.

Ignominous.

This thing opens February 6th, and I can't decide if I'd rather it got here sooner to get it over with or later to keep it away from me as long as possible.

It could be the Disaster Movie of 2009.

I just read Steve Martin's autobiography, Born Standing Up. In it he describes knowing the exact moment to get out of the comedy game, which he claims he did abruptly after realizing the audiences no longer found him funny.

Though I love him in dramatic roles (Spanish Prisoner, Grand Canyon), it's sad that he can't do the same with his career as a comedic actor.

When I want to see Mr. Martin being funny, I'll dust off my well worn VHS copy of Planes Trains and Automobiles.

That's a great book. Got it last year for Christmas. And in his prime, he was very good. But that was a long time ago.
