Leo Talks Kate Winslet and 'Revolutionary Road'

Later this year, Leonardo DiCaprio will re-team with Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road. Together, of course, they were the star-crossed Jack and Rose in Titanic, although DiCaprio has been trying to shed that teen heartthrob image ever since.

He usually takes very serious roles with the best directors in the world (the "worst" director he's worked with in a decade is Edward Zwick) and the result is a string of thought-provoking works that extends with his latest, an adaptation of a National Book Award finalist in the 1960s, which DiCaprio says conveys some of his own disappointment with modern society.

"For me, the film asks a good question — what do you do when you are trying to hold on to a higher moral context in an immoral world? Ferris is trying to do good by his country while his country is slapping him in the face. I’m very anti-war.”

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Leo discusses making another film with Winslet, this time under the direction of her husband, Sam Mendes. “Kate’s the same person she was then,” he says. “She’s remained a close friend,” he says. But DiCaprio knows - as does Winslet, no doubt - that when two great actors get a hold of the same material, tremendous things can happen. In the case of Revolutionary Road, Kate and Leo play a married couple with big dreams but a bigger, more depressing reality.

“It’s set in the 1950s, when America was just starting to develop morally into what it would become, and here are two people dealing with their own identity, trying not to be clichés," he explains. "I knew that Kate and I could really get stuff out of each other, performance wise, that we could push each other’s buttons. It was exciting.”

Exciting enough to draw Titanic numbers? “I’ll never reach that state of popularity again,” DiCaprio readily admits. “And I’m not going to try.”

DiCaprio could be huge again if he'd make better choices and stop being so serious. Scorcese directed affairs are the only thing anyone wants to see him in these days. He could learn a lot from guys like Damon, Bale, Downey Jr., and Depp and find a popcorn serial to do between message movies...

Why would DiCaprio want to be 'huge again'? He's become a very good actor by accepting serious material, that' s much more rewarding than being 'huge again' with a 'popcorn serial'.
Some people don't seem to understand that being a heartthrob is a short-lived privilege (or burden, if you will). Trying to remain a heartthrob is pathetic. This actor knows that.
