Brad Pitt's 'Lost City of Z' Adds 'We Own the Night' Director

We had already heard much of this news, but now there's
a director in place for the new
Brad Pitt vehicle called
The Lost City of Z, which Pitt will also
produce through his Plan B shingle.
The Guardian reports that director
James Gray,
who directed about two-thirds of a good movie called We Own the Night last year, has
come aboard to direct. That's a notable step forward for Gray, and shows plenty
of trust in his vision on Pitt's part.

The book being turned into the movie is by David Grann, who chronicled the fateful journey by British soldier and spy Percy Fawcett into the Brazilian jungles in the 1920s. He was looking for a lost civilization with his son, but they were never seen again.
"This is a terrific opportunity to do something entirely different for me," said Gray, recognizing his wonderful opportunity. "It is a story that will be told with an epic scale, with a main character who is larger than life."
In fact, Fawcett is believed to be the inspiration (or an inspiration) for the Indiana Jones character, whose own adventures began on screen, if you'll remember, in South America.
I'm reminded again of my childhood here, so would someone explain to me why we've never come close to a movie adaptation of Pitfall, the classic Activision game on Atari?
